Baltimore Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center

Loch Raven, MD

BKM provided m/e/p design services for a 22,000-square-foot addition to the existing Baltimore Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center (BRECC). A renovation, totaling 2,400 square feet, to a portion of the BRECC was also included.

The therapy addition provides much needed space for activities necessary to those recovering residents of the Loch Raven Community Living Center. The spaces includes activity rooms, recreational therapy, media center, physical therapy, occupational therapy, ADL training, and treatment rooms.

The mechanical systems include new central station air handling units located in an attic mechanical room. Chilled water and heating hot water were extended from the existing building to the new addition. New water-conserving ADA accessible toilet facilities are provided along with a training kitchen and bathroom for occupational therapy.

The electrical systems include new power and lighting for the addition. Power was extended from the existing building to the new addition. Lighting systems are provided with lighting controls to minimize usage during unoccupied times and when daylight provides enough ambient lighting.
