Westminster Branch Library Renovation

Westminster, MD

BKM is currently providing MEP design services for a renovation of the basement in the existing Westminster Branch Library.

The basement area to be renovated is approximately 13,500-square-feet and is currently in a cold dark shell condition. Approximately 600-square-feet  on the upper floor will also be modified as needed for a new stair and an elevator. The basement will be renovated to be converted into a “maker space” with laser cutters, 3-D printing, and other technology. The space will include a 2,000-square-foot commercial kitchen.

Exploration Commons at 50 East is an interactive space where people, ideas and tools come together to create, innovate and collaborate in a Makerspace, Professional Teaching Kitchen and Meeting Space.

“Exploration Commons at 50 East will create new horizons for innovation, work, and play in our community. Children and adults alike will be afforded experiences and opportunities previously only available in major cities. I can’t wait to see and hear about all of the amazing things that people learn and build. We’ll look back in 30 years and see that this makerspace was a critical piece of the puzzle for creating incredible growth and prosperity in Carroll.” – Jason Stambaugh, MAGIC Board of Directors
