Baltimore Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center

Loch Raven, MD

BKM provided MEP design services for a 22,000-square-foot addition to the existing Baltimore Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center (BRECC).

A renovation, totaling 2,400-square-feet, to a portion of the BRECC was included. The therapy addition provided much needed space for activities necessary to those recovering residents of the Loch Raven Community Living Center. The spaces included activity rooms, recreational therapy, media center, physical therapy, occupational therapy, ADL training, and treatment rooms.

The mechanical systems included new central station air handling units located in an attic mechanical room. Chilled water and heating hot water were extended from the existing building to the new addition. New water-conserving ADA accessible toilet facilities were provided along with a training kitchen and bathroom for occupational therapy.

The electrical systems included new power and lighting for the addition. Power was extended from the existing building to the new addition. Lighting systems were provided with lighting controls to minimize usage during unoccupied times and when daylight provides enough ambient lighting.
