BKM provided MEP design of this 5-bay, 17,500 SF fire station in Baltimore County, Maryland. The new fire station also included a kitchen/dayroom. The mechanical design services included a new variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system to serve the administrative side of the building. The code compliant mechanical ventilation system serving the administrative design now consists of a dedicated outside air unit (DOAS) located on the roof of the facility. Additionally, the Apparatus Bay side of the building was served by suspended infrared heaters accompanied with code required exhaust systems, including a fully-automated, self-contained, hoseless engine exhaust system. Plumbing design services included domestic water extended to the building from a new well installed that is being utilized for the building’s domestic hot and cold-water systems. Liquid propane was utilized to serve the building’s mechanical and plumbing heating systems. The electrical design services included power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, emergency power, fire alarm system and lightning protection. A new diesel generator with service entrance rated automatic transfer switch, load bank and portable generator connection provided backup power to the entirety of the facility.
