The BKM Trailblazers kicked off summer with a happy hour to welcome our new interns!
This gave our interns the opportunity to connect with mid- and senior-level engineers across the company outside the office to ask questions, share stories, and get a feel for what it's like to grow a career at BKM. We’re excited to host monthly events like this throughout the summer to ensure our current and future interns have plenty of opportunities to build relationships, learn from our team, and make the most of their time with us.

This past weekend, our BKM team gathered with family and friends for one of our favorite annual traditions, our company picnic at Belmont Park! There was so much to enjoy: snow cone trucks, face painting, yard games, great food, and even better company. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re proud to highlight our work on the Park School Science and Technology addition, a forward-thinking space designed to support the next generation of educators and innovators.
This 16,000 SF addition includes state-of-the-art science classrooms, engineering labs, and shop spaces equipped with 3D printers, welding booths, laser cutters, and more. Renovations to 2,500 SF of adjacent space further enhance the learning environment. Targeting net zero energy, the project features high-efficiency systems including VRF HVAC with DOAS, heat pump technology, and a 105kW photovoltaic array. Advanced metering and controls help ensure performance aligns with sustainability goals.

Last week, BKM opened its doors to the next generation of engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers for Bring Your Kid to Work Day! We were thrilled to host a fun-filled day of STEM activities to spark curiosity and creativity. From hands-on experiments to team challenges, our future thinkers got a glimpse into the engineering world and what their grown-ups do daily.

BKM proudly served as the MEP consultant for the new 23,000 SF residential facility at the Maryland School for the Blind. Designed with the unique needs of visually impaired students in mind, the building includes four connected cottages—each supporting six students—and shared spaces like common areas, kitchens, laundry rooms, and private bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.
MEP systems were thoughtfully designed for accessibility and comfort, featuring:
. A two-pipe fan coil HVAC system with DOAS units for ventilation
. Specialized lighting with uniform, elevated levels and residential-style controls
. Acoustics and plumbing tailored to the students’ needs
. Electrical coordination to navigate complex site conditions and provide reliable standby power
. A chime-based fire alarm system to reduce auditory sensitivity
