Lighting is an essential part of our building designs. Proper lighting design not only meets code and energy requirements but also increases user comfort, safety, and productivity. The National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) has developed a peer-review process to establish the minimum experience, education, and examination requirements of the LC credential that assesses knowledge and application in areas such as lighting design, financial analysis, installation & commissioning, operations & maintenance and regulatory compliance. Credentials such as the LC help establish, maintain, and deliver a measured, minimum industry standard to clients and owners. The LC acknowledges a broad knowledge base in an increasingly niche practice making lighting-certified staff valuable assets to our firm and to the industry as a whole. Further, the EPA has encouraged Energy Star partners to search for LC practitioners, and the GSA has been mandating the use of an LC practitioner for lighting designs on their projects. Similarly, this helps our future projects maintain our established strong, well-rounded lighting design practices while promoting improvements to our design quality and energy efficiency. BKM is proud to have Jessica leading the push for more lighting-certified designers amongst our team to increasingly serve the customized lighting needs of our clients.

“In the past, I have been able to work with other lighting certified professionals who have clearly shown advanced knowledge in the field of lighting and have demonstrated strong lighting design practices from the schematic phase through CA. As my career and passion for my work has progressed, it felt like a natural step to purse lighting certification to continue to provide our company clients with improved lighting services. I wanted to thoroughly represent the credential, so I made it my priority to prepare and study for this for several months. Enlisting the help of a preparation course and other industry professionals definitely helped provide solid guidance on making this a reality. I feel proud to be able to present to clients a more visible, distinguished lighting standard for our company and our projects. As an engineering professional, the preparation has most certainly improved my lighting design practices even prior to earning the credential.” -Jessica Chery-Hise
